We engage in a variety of events throughout the year, and activities include: • Book Talks From late February to early December, discussions in English on German literature at the Goethe-Institut, Washington, D.C. Starting September 2009, Book Talks will be temporarily replaced by an expanded lecture series (see below).
• Dramatic Readings Monthly reading and discussion of German dramas in German held at the Tysons-Pimmit Regional Library. Social hour follows at a local restaurant.
• Lectures In November and January, lectures on German music and literature, in March and May, lectures on German art and philosophy at the Goethe-Institut in Washington DC. Social hour follows. Volunteers are needed to help with refreshments.
• Poetry Luncheons Lunch mit Lyrik held on last Saturdays at Washington area German/European restaurants to which participants may bring a poem in German to share.
• Classical Oktoberfest Classical Oktoberfest, an annual daylong celebration of the German arts, hosted by the Embassy of Germany, the Goethe-Institute and the AGS. In lieu of Oktoberfest in 2010, we will celebrate a Schumannfest with a lecture and demonstration of the music of Robert Schumann in honor of the 200th anniversary of his birth, Saturday, October 23, 2010 at the Goethe-Institut. • Christmas Markets Tour NEW! Take advantage of the superb hotel rates AGS has arranged for its members in the Frankfurt/Main region to tour Germany's annual Christmas Markets.
