For the fourth time we will celebrate literature in the context of other arts with our Classical Oktoberfest. This year, under the theme "Texts and Images," we commemorate the 175th anniversary of Wilhelm Busch's birth (of Max und Moritz fame) and of Goethe's death.

• On Friday evening, 26 October, we'll hold a dinner reception at the German Embassy with Octoberfest specialties of food and drink. As in past years we'll engage in communal jocularity related to Wilhelm Busch.

• On Saturday, 27 October, we offer an all-day seminar at the Goethe-Institut.

• Films present the unique Manessische Liederhandschrift (Manesse manuscript), a medieval version of illustrated poetry (Minnesang), and Disney's imaginative rendition of Goethe's poem Der Zauberlehrling (The Sorcerer's Apprentice).

• The keynote lecture by Professor Amelia Rutledge (George Mason University) explores the role of illustration in children's literature.

• After a buffet luncheon, provided by Cafe Mozart, a workshop will expand on the lecture topic.

• Following Kaffee und Kuchen, crafted by Heidelberg Pastry Shoppe, attendees are invited to participate in readings from Busch's satirical masterpiece, Die fromme Helene (Pious Helen).
